What is Static Routing ?
In a network of devices, the Router is the device responsible for communicating to all the other outside networks only if it knows the path to them.
In static routing these paths/routes are configured manually by the system administrator on the router.
This type of routing is not feasible for larger networks as the number of routes increase and hence becomes difficult to manage it manually.
Typical Network
This layout in the figure consists of
(i) 2 Routers where one is a DCE and the other is a DTE connected via serial DCE cable to the serial ports of the Routers.
(ii) 2 Switches under the router connected via Fast Ethernet ports of Router and Switch using a Copper straight through cable.
(iii) some PCs that are also connected to the Ethernet ports of the switches using Copper Straight through cable.
